The Mouse Needs Hard Wood
A little mouse is looking for food. He is careless. He falls into a pail. Its wall is high and slippery. He cannot get out. "Help! help!" the mouse cries out, but no one is around. A few days later, his sister finds him. She throws in some food. "I'll get help," she says before leaving. "Wait! I can't eat. My teeth are too long," says the little mouse, pointing to his teeth. "Bring me some hard wood to grind!"
The little sister goes home. She meets their father. She tells him everything. "Quick! we must go and help your brother," says the father. The sister says, "I don't understand. Why does he ask for hard wood?".... "a mouse's teeth keep on growing. To stop them, he must gnaw wood," explains the father.
"A mouse's teeth can become too long. His mouth cannot close. He cannot eat, he can die." the father says. Then they hurry to where the little mouse is....
The father mouse lowers a rope into the pail. He climbs down to help his son. He gives him some water. Later they climb up the rope. They reach home safely.............
